Last thing at night, before I close my eyes to end the day
I watch you safe in slumber
The calm of dreamtime washing over you
In the dark you are my guiding light
Eyes open, I am living my dream
Unsure at first to invest my heart in you
Tentative steps, I was a small child learning to walk
The seed planted in unfamiliar ground
Nurtured by feelings flowing through your heart to mine
Has given me true purpose, allowed me to grow
We laugh in the face of another raging storm
Waltz through each day in the great dance of life
Fires of adversity cooled by our togetherness
Hold my hand tightly, never let me go
Never let anything divide the whole
With you I am the calmest sea
The most dazzling ray of golden sun
Without you I am hollow
A husk, empty of feelings inside
Dried up, left to be reclaimed by an unforgiving world
Last thing tonight, before I close my eyes to end another perfect day
I will watch you smile, my peaceful angel sleeping
I will kiss your cheek softly, not to wake you
Rest my head carefully against you
And in the morning as light sparkles your eyes, tell you simply, I love you
