A Child Waiting

Standing in the darkness Bathed in moonlight I stare through the night
As shadows pass over me A shiver runs down my spine Snaking through me like a growing vine
The pain washes over me Flowing through my veins The source of which I can't explain
I'm only sixteen But have so much to fear Like the whispers in my head, only I can hear
The emptiness in me Tears at my soul The darkness threatening to devour me whole
The fear is a monster It attacks with sharp claws And snaps at my heart with huge dripping jaws
Crystal droplets flow down my face In the shadows I stand and cry Still a child, yet waiting to die
