For Eric, part three

Contributed by Blu on Thursday, 19th February 2004 @ 10:14:08 PM in AEST
Topic: LostLove

There is no freedom in love,
I realize,
pacing up my street,
rain drops stinging my cheeks.
How have I become so captive?

And yet,
like a bird,
you are able to stretch
your heavenly wings
and take your leave
of me.

Where have you stolen this freedom?
Is this liberty to ignore tears-
soothe a broken heart with 'adieu'
real, or illusion?

Death I have come to embrace
like a lover-
in your impending abscence
I have taken into my bed
something dark and cold.

Yes, I still have the petals
from the roses you gave me.
They are frozen in their perfection
like memories, perhaps,
or a photograph.

If ever I have loved someone,
it is you.
If ever two hearts were one,
they were ours.

Yes, I still have mine-
the matching sweaters we bought.
It is my proud color, my blue-
my cloak of night to veil
my tear stained face.

For which you will no longer
be here to kiss.

My quiet lover,
my Raphael,
my life, my breath-
love, how you have left me.

And I have realized,
it is not rain but my own tears that sting

And there is no freedom in love,
only death.
