Charcoal Grey

Contributed by karl_wiggins on Monday, 1st March 2004 @ 06:05:06 PM in AEST
Topic: MiscPoems

Charcoal Grey is a smoking, snorting, sniffing species of colour
It is a colour for hitting up, shooting up, mainlining and chasing the dragon
It is the colour of fireworks and drive-by-shootings
Of fratricide, patricide and dust
Charcoal Grey is the colour of decomposition.

It is upheaval
Causing sudden and violent change
The irrevocable end towards which all life moves
The determination of mankind’s ultimate fate at the end of the world.

Charcoal Grey presides over the moment of a man’s birth
Spinning out the events and actions of his life
And cutting its thread with shears.

Charcoal Grey is a church key, large and flat with a triangular head
The three sides representing the three sisters of fate.

Charcoal Grey is the handwriting on the wall
It is scrawl and scribble and chicken tracks
It is a colour that dogs its heels in and leaves no stone unturned.

It is a pack of wolves degraded by non-productively and shiftlessness
It is the colour of tramps and beggars and criminals.

Charcoal Grey is a smoking gun.

You nailed it perfectly. It is the colour of devastation! Like the sky before a killer storm then the finality of black.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
