Like a disease your influence eats away at my insides
You flow through my veins and turn my blood ice cold
You whisper lies and falsehood into my ear
Your breath sends chills down my spine
Even though I despise the feeling, I giggle anyway
It's so easy to resist you, so why is it impossible
How can I fall to your feet, and pledge my allegiance to you time and time again?
And each time run away, beaten and decieved, with your laughter ringing in my ear?
I am seduced by such petty things
Things that only you could make seem so desirable
The road that would free me from your clutches is an easy road to take
At the end of it is One who would welcome me with open arms
I know He has been waiting for me
I know that He watches for me everyday
Perhaps my load is too heavy, and that is why I am reluctant to move from this place
I want to denounce you as my authority, as my King
But I know that I will crawl back to you on hands and knees, begging for your disease to infect me again
And even though you would spit on me and shame me and continue to beat me, as you do to me now
Out of shame I could never go back to the One who loves me
It is easier to stay where I am, and blame you for my destruction
Than it is to bear the look of betrayal I would see in His eyes
