the incessant droning on
of some unknown source keeping
me awake-
my eyes wide, but yearning for release.
the constant sound
is stressed, almost crying out in
pain.
awake, searching for the source.
seeing the red numbers of that ugly clock
remind me of the hot blood
sliding through my veins
into the empty, clandestine chambers of my heart.
it is then
i realize the night-piercing noise is
my own heart beating away
the ache that has kept me down.
beat away...
