Nothing Else

A group of youths stand at a bus shelter in the rain. They're not waiting for a bus, They're just waiting.
Waiting for life to begin maybe.
But life just goes on by with the same irregularity of intervals as the buses.
In the distance, if you care to listen, you'll hear the rhythmic thud of a basketball bouncing off wet concrete, interspersed with the occasional explosion of rubber against wood just before the ball drops silently through a torn net.
In this day and age, a youngster who doesn't know what he's good 'at' will never be too sure what he's good 'for'.
The rain, the smell of cigarettes, a cursed word and a basketball.
Nothing else.

It is very sad that these children and teens do not have places to go and things to do to keep them busy. Where there are people that care enough to just sit and listen and be mentors. Why don't our children matter anymore?
