shake possibility from your hair
as you forget your pain
and wind down those dark stairs
to a place of hiding and of doubt
all alone in your new world
the walls are closing in as you begin to shout
soon though you grow accustom
nothing matters in this place
and even your blood forgets your face
does it ever go away
how long have you had these dreams
have the chemicals found a place to stay
clutching your mind as tight as you can
slipping away though
like waves to the sand
soon though you forget the names and the people
so delicate with that needle
all glory is paid to death's steeple
hopelessley triumphant in personal exile
done your best to do your worst
blindly crawling an uphill mile
once you thought you found a way out
but it slipped away, unlike you
a chemical net scooped a human trout
soon though you will escape
so many tears shed by those who tried
all secrets were revealed the day you died
