We ride our painted ponies with pride Refusing to go down without a fight By no mans laws will we abide
Can they see no way of compromise Freedom to live off the land is our right We ride our painted ponies with pride
Across vast plains where many have died We wish for peace with none in sight By no mans laws will we abide
Again into battle we go side by side Less and less come home by morning light We ride our painted ponies with pride
For the sake of our future we must provide Our children, our customs all feel the blight By no mans laws will we abide
Our numbers are few, many women they cry But still together we go again into the night We ride our painted ponies with pride By no mans laws will we abide

Somehow this poem reminds me of Geronimo and his band... their righteous fight against the deceitful diplomacies of the US government and the might of the US cavalry. But such is the price of pride and freedom that the ghosts of Geronimo and his men will only arise today to see their people either dead or confined to reservations as a conquered people. Wistful tales perhasp.. but maybe this same spirit of defiance in this poem can be used by ther generations to fight not by arms but by building their peoples up as a culture and an economic an political power. oh well just some thoughts...nice poem by the way. |
