It Snowed Last Night

Contributed by kidpoet_213 on Sunday, 21st March 2004 @ 11:10:34 PM in AEST
Topic: MiscPoems

It snowed last night
Now everything is covered in white
How precious it looks?
How quiet and still?
How wonderful and magical it can feel?

When nature decides to cover the ground
With a blanket of white spread all around
To see the trees sparkling... glittering with silver gems
As the icicles hang in a row like shining diamonds
That the richest of people cannot possess

Have you ever thought...?
How amazing it is... that one tiny flake cannot be held in the hand
Without melting away?
But yet when packed together
What power they have...
What a punch they can carry when thrown

Have you ever walked in the moonlight
On the breast of a new fallen snow
And looked at the footprints left behind?
They remind me of those on the moon
Left by the astronauts in mid June

When the snow and wind are raging outside
You will be all snug and warm inside
Watching a fire roar on the hearth
And eating popcorn...
Feeling all warm and cozy inside....
Staring into the flames...
Thinking of all kinds of things...
What a vivd imagination one has in this light?
All because... it snowed last night

Your imagery is very good here. We had snow for one day this winter and it was so beautiful. I remember snows in Michigan though that lasted for 7-8 months and I still loved it. It is exactly like you described.

Rainbows,
Rita

Have you ever red the poem by Silverstein...about the snowball that wet the bed then ran away?...your poem is beautiful as always, but for some reason I thought of that...I love snowflakes...falling outside my window while I read in front of the fire, or......well, it's almost spring now. Really great read. You always make me yearn for my youth....
