Here I am
I am sitting down
Following college
Am I listening?
I am
To the birds
The canteen trolley
To my fellow students
To my mind
Am I meditating?
Is that what they call it?
Thinking, drifting off, sleeping
Opening up to my inner conscience
Or whatever
Do I hate it
College at night
But musing
Grows stronger
As the sky darkens
This is so strong
These haunting feelings
These devouring thoughts
So out of reach
Cold pizza slices in my apartment
Do I fit in
What is told
In front of me?
Just a number
Following a trend?
Exceptions just cant be
Am I immoral?
My head so heavy
My mouth so dry
In the midst of
Higher knowledge
Ambiguous feelings
They trip on it
While I need dope
Or just my thoughts
After college
I walk home
Under a black veil
Along moaning tramps
Over a path
That glows in the dark
I am game
Any offer
Or proposal
Is welcome
As long as I
Dont have to cook
Am I modest
Like I should be?
Just like the others
Dragged by the flow
Hard swimming just wont do
Am I home yet?
I enter my room
Dark and empty
Cans and dishes
Tons of books
So familiar
A place to be
So many people yearn for this
I only find shelter
In my soul

| I like it, interesting description of college life. I often felt like this at school, and I'm off to college in a couple of months so it'll happen all over again. Well done. |

The title is apt. College Cattle. The abrupt turn around is exceptionaly well written. I enjoyed this most unusual poem very much.
