Return of the King

Contributed by Hurretje on Monday, 29th March 2004 @ 04:45:31 AM in AEST
Topic: Nostalgic

My room
Large and stuffed with toys
With more than enough space to accommodate
All my knights and servants

My castle
Grand and full of light
With dark, thrilling corners
Only known to my truly faithful

My garden
Vast, a dark jungle
With a stretched green turf
Site of many battles

My capital
Center of the world
With broad streets
To hail me during the biggest carnivival processions

And seasons came and went
Cold winters covered in hot chocolate
And powdered snow
Hot summers floating on ice tea
And blue swimming pools
In an endless whirl of excitement

*

The dingy streets are empty
As I return
Small shops neglect me
Their windows shut in weariness

The fence sighs
As I return
A yellow brown stamp begs me
Not to choke it with my feet

The door still squeaks
As I return
Through the soiled window
I see the neighbor's house is still larger

Fuggy air hits my face
As I return
When I gyrate on my desk chair
I bump my knee on my bed

Under my bed covered in dust
I find a tiny figure
'Hey, I know you! You're Roger, my one-armed knight!'
The King has reclaimed his realm

Of course I meant 'carnival' processions.
It's a shame you cannot edit your poems anymore after you've posted them.

Tolkien is great truly.. but your drabble is anything but humble...in fact not a drabble but a nice poem i think.. well in my opinions at least..I like this write..I see images of a lost childhood a lost happiness.. someone lost in the shuffling of life..thence by the discovery of an old toy..a reminder of better times and a rekindling of that magic the inner child bringing back that smile and happy happy days...being King I'd say. King has return long live the king!...nice imagery used here..a great potential I think.

Good one! I know the feeling well - my room is my haven. Who was it that said, half the problems in the world could be solved if Man only knew how to sit quietly in his room?
Excellent, as always.

creative way for an adult to return to his childhood. I really enjoyed it and it made think about being a kid once again and returning to "my kingdom" or bedroom
