It is better to have you now
temporarily
then to have you always
only to watch you spoil and decay
or our passion slowly slip away
It is better to have you now
temporarily
while you are perfect
in my mind
then to have you for all time
and take you for granted
or become too comfortable
losing all excitement and adventure
It is better to have you now
temporarily
before the sparkle in your eyes dull
and you start to gray
spoil and decay
I want to remember you
as the handsome man you are,
were
It is better to leave you now
while I am still happy
and there is no bitterness between us
and you become emblazoned in my mind
as a lover I once had
while traveling across the ocean
It is better to have you now
temporarily
then not have you at all.
