The Birthday Wish

Contributed by asr898 on Monday, 5th April 2004 @ 05:54:16 PM in AEST
Topic: AngryPoetry

3 hours to midnight
Stuck in a car with 3 men
Coming back from where i've been
All Spring break of course,
Now let me tell you how i've been living my live for the past 15.99 years...
Constant Ridicule
Endless suffering
Being treated like a fool
Always being called stupid names and being the "outcast"
Moving around every year...changing homes more than a man changes his socks...
In this car,
People dont drive so carefully
2 Hours to Midnight
They drive like morons
or even like they're drunk and stoned
chances are,
they are drunk and stoned and whatnot
but why not take that chance,
after all you might just get your birthday wish
1 hour to midnight
Now also understand
where i'm coming from
I've never had a birthday wish come true...
and if i'd gotten my 16th birthday wish,
I wouldn't be typing this right now
i would be being scraped off of I-88 somewhere between minnesota and Illinois
10 Minutes to midnight
Tired of the ridicule...tired of being the "outcast"
I wanted to put an end to all of this madness
Finally start a new life or just not have one at all,
But you see, there were no birthday candles
The essential element of a birthday wish
Had i had a candle, maybe it would've come true
I closed my eyes and
5 minutes to midnight
Tried my hardest to think of some way to get myself killed tonight
But then again, stuck in a car with the three stooges is enough isn't it?
Panting at the wonderful thought of how only family
would care about the one they've lost
and even close friends would brush this off of their shoulders
like the good friends they've "always been"
well sure
MIDNIGHT
and yet still, here i remain...untouched...
so much for the birthday wish...

felt like this so many times......a poem i can really relate to. freeform works well. think rhyming might have made it too conformist
