I Should Be Used To It By Now

Contributed by melis on Tuesday, 24th September 2002 @ 09:33:00 PM in AEST
Topic: LostLove

I should be used to it by now;
Every day starts the same.
Where will love be by nightfall?
The ritual of our daily game.

I should be used to it by now;
If I was fortunate the night before;
Maybe a note by the bed,
And some tissues on the floor.

I should be used to it by now;
No attempt to conceal the lying.
The casual ease of the excuses;
Indifferent to love dying.

I should be used to it by now;
A cheek offered instead of lips,
As I move to kiss, vacant eyes averted,
And drumming of bored fingertips.

I should be used to it by now,
And tear myself from the phone;
Not stare for hours for signs of life,
But be resigned to nights alone.

I should be used to it by now,
And stay calm and sweetly serene,
When well intentioned friends,
Gloat on where youve been seen.

I should be used to it by now;
Not break down each night and cry.
I should be so dam used to it by now,
That I'd stop just wanting to die.

How can you ever get used to your being broken?? We don't...we just learn to deal with it. Good luck to you :)

This is good. Nice write. But I do have to say I don't think it is ever something that you just get used to.
