Listen to Me

Contributed by sheri on Tuesday, 13th April 2004 @ 10:43:02 AM in AEST
Topic: StoryPoetry

Please don't go
it's not up to you
I know it sounds cowardly
to back out of this obligaton you feel
you have to fill,

my reasons are clear
I can't protect over there
I am the sister who beat up those bullies who stole your back pack just cause it was funny,

I know it's my fear talking
but I won't be able to shield you from the bombs
or stop the sand from ripping at your eyes
and that's my job to keep you out of trouble,

I only have one brother
I am older than you and smarter too
so by default you have to listen to what I say

I know your an adult now
that doesn't change the wisdom of my word your,
I saved you from going to jail,
so listen to me and don't be foolish
you can't go to fight this war

your daugther needs you
mom needs you more
stop this madness that you have
been inclined to believe in
just stay where you are truly needed

Very beautiful and straight from the heart.
I can see your concerns for your brother.
He is just doing what he believes in.
But the best of luck on pursuading him to stay.

Beautiful write, and you are so right, he's met his duty and served, and now his place is home, to be with family and children and take his rightful place. He has nothing to feel but pride is what he gave to all, nothing is owed by him, but much is owed to him.

Good luck in convincing him. Thank you for sharing.

I hope you do persuade him to stay. The war in Mesapotamia will rage for aeons more. I feel that even he is lucky to return, if he has indeed been before - hell will broil there, and no good will ever come of it whilst there is an occupation in existence.
Do your utmost to help him see sense. Hundreds of Americans and thousands of Iraqis have already died, and the death toll is rising . . .

I'm sorry that's something you're going through. I have a friend who went you can see in his eyes the horror he saw, just can't imagine what they go through. Again i am sorry. Your poem is very nice. :)
