Pretending

Contributed by rhei76 on Wednesday, 14th April 2004 @ 12:17:27 AM in AEST
Topic: selfstruggles

You know,
I learned to play pretend
and the world seemed to be fake
and then I turned fake

You know,
I realized the layers
and how the people wear them freely
and I can't understand

You know,
this creates a force
for which I must carry
so I feel so unstable

I learned to play pretend
understanding for the world went away
like demons playing in layerd clay
You know?

You know,
my understanding just floated away
as the flames grew higher
for my painted Mary's dyer

You understand?

You know,
I could so easily cut these chains
and fly across to freedom
lovely are those skies

You know,
I learned to play pretend
and the scenery faded thru
while everyone went on living

You know,
I'm trying to comprehend
but it's just a mess in my head
I awake in my shed
with closed doors ahaunting
for the machine is accounting

I could so easily flow down stream
leave the hate and breed for love
but I'm losing faith, I lost the kingdom
You know?

You know,
I should fly to the stars
and leave your nest
to find some one who doesn't play pretend

You know,
I'm tired of playing pretend
I'm tired of see-ing these things
I'm tired of playing these parts

You know,
lights aren't as bright
when the sun is faded
and the world has turned
black

You know,
I play pretend too...
I pretend that the world is just fine
And all that I want will someday be mine...

Sometimes we need to pretend to get thru this life....

You have a reflective, philosophical mind.
A great poem by the way and uniquely written.
Excellent!

yes. i know. facades are a part of every day life, as much as it saddens me to say so. i wish that for once we could see everyone for what we really are, and you've really captured this feeling.

you know,
i'm tired of playing pretend.
i'm tired of seeing these things.
i'm tired of playing these parts.

thats exactly how i feel. great write. keep it up!
