A Piece Of You Inside Me
-------------------------
When I was young
Knee high to a grasshopper
My dad would place me on his knee
And say
Theres a piece of you inside me son?
I never understood what he meant
Nor did I ever ask him to explain
But somehow I knew when he said it
It meant affection
And I accepted it as that
Many years have gone by now
And daddys little boy is all grown-up
And Im much too big to sit on his knee
Even if he was still around to ask
The other night I was watching tv
Survivor, I think
When a tired eyed little boy
Jumped upon my lap
To rest his tired bones
As I watched his eyes close for the night
I kissed him on the forehead
And said out loud
Theres a piece of you inside me son?
After all these years I finally understood
I finally got it
By the way dad
If you're listening?
Theres a piece of you inside of me
