Smoking is so bad for you, it's been medically proven so It clogs your lungs, you wheeze and it kills, this we all know Yet first thing in the morning, we reach for that twenty pack Feel our guts come up, as we inhale and start to hack
It controls our moods, habits too, it really takes a grip A drug for sure and we're all hooked, on our downward trip Yet we keep doing it, lighting up, because of its strong hold Some say just give it up, but, that we don't want to be told
I know I should, but I am hooked, a tar and nicotine addiction I cannot stop, the weed that rots, it's like a total fixation But if you can, then do so now, don't wait until it's too late Reclaim your life, breath fresh air, don't meet me at heavens gate

A great poem. I recall a few years ago the surgeon general stating that nicotine was more habit forming than heroine. Well when you think about the percentage of addicts that stay away from heroine after rehabilitation which is extremely low in percentage it gives you an idea just how hard it is to break the habit.
I liked what the poem had to say. I liked the realistic views and the ending was perfect.
Well done.

If you could just see the lungs of someone who had died of lung cancer, you would stop immediately. It is a gross site. Please consider stopping for the sake of your loved ones.

Hmn. The longest i've 'quit' for is six months. I find it impossible to quit smoking - whilst enjoying a good pint. Now there's hope for people like me - in the form of a alcohol patch (or something - I heard it on the news). They're (those ubiquitous boffins who deserve the generalisation) going to combine it with nicotine patches, to begin the social revolution of health and happiness.
Apparently.
Another set of boffins state that you have a ninety percent chance of staying relatively healthy beyond the age of sixty, if you give up before you're forty.
Apparently.
Anyway - good poem. I wrote something similar to this, although not nearly as good.
*goes for another one* |

This is so true, quitting seems impossible sometimes...even though I hate being told to do it. Good poem. |
