Mirror Hag

Contributed by Merry on Sunday, 25th April 2004 @ 06:31:08 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

______________
That face it haunts me
Dour reflection in the light
Mocks all attempts to conceal
Crows feet and gray hair
Teeth not straight
And oh my God
Is that a hair on my chin?
Who is this hag?
When did she move in here?
With sagging jowls and drooping lids
Unholy crone what do you want?
Stole my pretty creamy skin
Leave me with pursed lips
And wrinkled neck
This is my lifes reward
To outlive my youthfulness
Memories of silky skin
And firm breasts
To stand here looking at some hag
Whose wisdom fills a thousand years
And eyes that shine as bright as stars
She has replaced the girl I was
With the woman I have become

Sigh. Know this feeling too well. Just came from a 60th BD party for a friend. She hasn't changed in 20 years. I gotta buy her secret. Interesting perspective---universal and personal all at once.
