Crossroads

Here you are... standing at a crossroads in life...
Wondering which path to trod...
Trying to remember... which paths you've already been on...
And there standing... silently... out in the center... is an angel...
An angel you recognize... for you've seen her before... many times...
She walks silently through your life...
Softly treading through your dreams at night
Slipping... oh... so silently... unaware... unheard... unseen
Behind the scenes... this angel stays...
To keep your life treading on the narrow way
Always leaving behind... angelic footprints... upon your heart... your mind
Unexpressed love... that keeps falling from your eyes...
And much...much compassion that explodes from your arms....

You find yourself standing here now...
Looking to the left... then to the right...
Looking at where you've been...
And where your life may lead...
Not knowing... which way to proceed...

Pleading to the angel... with your heart... your mind...your eyes...
Standing here at a crossroads in life...
Asking... "which way should I choose...?
Thinking... "there are two ways... in which I could lose...
Or maybe regain something I've lost along life's way...
And yet I know that one way I could lose everything!
And yet another... I could gain everything...
Everything I am..."

You're stand at a crossroads...
Just this angel and you...

Ever have one of those days?
You know the ones...
You' re having one right now...

When eveything seems to go wrong and nothing's right...
When you're tired... you're scared and all alone in life
When your parents are fighting... again...
When your best friend won't talk to you...
And you don't even know why...
All you want to do is sit down and cry...

How do you feel?
How do you think?
You' re standing here at a crossroads...
Wondering which way to choose...
Pleading with the angel...
"Help me please... help me make this decision..."
But the angel... only stares... as though looking through you...

Suddenly... a voice you hear resounding from somewhere deep inside...
"These are hard times for you...
This is oh... so true...
Hard times call for something that may be new...
Faith... Faith... that's what will pull you through...
It won't be easy... ah... it never is...
But faith will get you there...
Don't give up...
Just be strong... don't let this decision... keep you from where you belong....
Keep going... keep busting on through...
You'll know what to do..."

Then you looked up... as the angel is slowly fading away... evanescing into thin air
Smiling at you... as if to say...
"What are you so afraid of?
When bad things happen or bad things you're tempted to do...
When things go wrong...
You know who to turn to..."

Standing alone... everything... oh... so quiet and still... at a crossroads in life...
Wondering which path to trod...
To the left...
Or to the right...
Or straight ahead...
On the path that you know... in your heart...
Leads straight to God?

Donna, this poem paints an extremely big picture. I've been there a few times in my life.
You have written this wonderfully. *S* Cynthia
