love upon a shelf

Contributed by ladyfawn on Tuesday, 27th April 2004 @ 09:08:33 PM in AEST
Topic: LostLove

for he had lain their love on a shelf
he sat there in the sun all by himself,
she was far away; no more in his arms
but it didn't matter he knew his charms,

there would be another; come a new day
he'd told her what for; come what may,
ignorant of his faults; days looked bright
yet; he had no one to hold him at night,

as he sat in the sunshine; he sent out love
there was no one to catch it; he, empty of,
where once was a future, a hope, a dream
all his plans had floated along life's stream,

what a lonely man; yet he had not a clue
he would figure it all out over some brew,
things that he told her came back each day
a wistful tear in his eye; he blinked away,

love to him was a very complicated matter
he'd taken back promises; love scattered,
for he had lain true love upon a shelf
he sat there in the sun all by himself.

Splendid and heartbreaking. Retribution is always hard to handle. We generally get back more pain than we handed out and I feel that is only right.

Your talent is so immense. I am in awe.

Hugs,
Rita

This brought tears to my eyes and I really felt for the man in your poem.

I wish everyone could love and be loved. It seems so easy to do yet so hard to find.

BEAUTIFUL Ness...

Love is precious, life is short
These two people at least should talk.

This holds so much pain! But it's beautiful nonetheless. I loved it Nessa. I really think you outdid yourself. And as always the picture is... superb!

Ooh I love this one. Makes me wonder who/what inspired such a write.
It sounds like a lonely existence.
Great job with this poem.
