perhaps Hope is my enemy
it clouds any rational judgment which I might make
and it tells me to wait, to watch, to cry
to take a slap in the face and embrace it
for in some contorted way that slap
might, just might, be a path out of this net of perpetual confusion,
against which I am always struggling, always gasping.
