Its tough to be an Alto when youre singing in a choir The Sopranos get the twiddly bits that people all admire The Basses boom like loud trombones, the Tenors shout with glee The Alto part in on two notes (or if youre lucky, three)
And when we sing an anthem and we lift our hearts in praises The men get all the juicy bits and telling little phrases Of course, Sopranos sing the tune, they always come off best The Altos only get four notes (and 32 bars rest!)
Oh, shed a tear for the Altos theyre martyrs and they know In ranks of choral singers theyre considered very low They are so very umble that a lotr of folk forget em Theyd love to be Sopranos but their vocal chords wont let em
And when the final trumpet sounds and we are wafted higher Sopranos, Basses, Tenors theyll be in the heavenly choir While they sing Alleluia to celestial flats and sharps The Altos will be occupied with polishing the harps.

I really love this poem.
However:
1) I, myself, am and alto.
2) In our choir, it seems
that altos are just fine.
3) We've got sopranos and
soprano 2s. The 2s seem
to get the parts that most
consider difficult, and so
that section tends to be the
least favorite.
4) From my experiences, alto is
just fine and dandy and it
actually shows some mature
qualities that are highly admired.
5) I will be sharing this with our
choir and I'll let you know what
their various comments are.
Fantastic write. BRAVO!!! ENCORE!!!
Love,
Chelsea |
