My Father

Topic: AngryPoetry

Why does he lie to us?
To me?
Why does he think that he has to hide
Away our money
So that bills
Can't be paid?
And that the extra money for all of us
Can't be saved?
Doesn't he realize I have to go to college
In just one more year?
Oh, that's right, because I want to be something
Other that a doctor my dad won't pay, won't shed a tear
As I have to work a full time job to put myself
Through school,
You know as I grow older I realize
That my Dad is just a fool.
He wants me to conform to his ways,
But I have always broken the mold,
He requires that I be perfect
But I've never been able to be told
How to act,
Or how to express what they want me to say,
I have always, somehow,
Just made my own way.
He thinks that my writing is silly,
And that becoming a "shrink" won't pay my bills,
Well, I have news for him,
At least doing something I love will
Keep me happy,
Let me do something that I adore,
I don't want to be the one always out there searching
For just a "little" bit more.
My life has never revolved around success,
And at least I've always told the truth,
The only thing that I've gotten from my father
Is what there is not to do.
