Scarcely one among thousands

Contributed by venkat on Tuesday, 11th May 2004 @ 12:00:41 AM in AEST
Topic: spiritual

* * *
Among thousands of human beings
Scarcely one strives for perfection.
Among thousands of faithful strivers
Scarcely one knows God after perfection.
In truth; the earth, water, fire, air, ether
Mind, intellect and egotism are His eight
Fold nature which is inferior; but different
From this; Gods higher nature, the eternal
Consciousness exists; by which the whole
Universe is supported; from these two types
Of His nature all beings are generated.
He is the origin and dissolution of the world
There is naught else existing higher
Than him; like the pearls on a thread
This entire universe is strung in God.
He is the sapidity in waters and radiance in
Sun and Moon and He is the eternal sound
OM by which the entire ether is pervaded
In all beings He exists as self-consciousness
He is the sacred fragrance of the earth and
Brilliance of fire and He is life of all beings
Know Him as the eternal seed of all beings.
He is the intellect of the intelligent and
Prowess of the powerful and of the strong.
He is strength, devoid of desires and
Attachments; He is also the desire in men
Unopposed to righteousness or righteous duty
But He is unmanifest to all beings veiled by
Multiplicity of the world His inferior nature;
All beings at birth fall into delusion caused
By pairs of opposites arising from desire and
Aversion; deluded by senses and egoistic qualities
We know Him not the unborn and immutable.
But those men of virtuous deeds whose sins have
Come to an end, freed from pairs of opposites
Seek Him with firm resolve, having taken refuge
In Him strive to attain freedom from the bonds
Of old age and death, they only know God the self
Of universe and the entire realm of action divine!

To be given such a gift as was bestowed on you and then to have you share it with the world shows that God did not make a mistake when he chose you, my esteemed friend. You are one of the lights of the world.

wow what odd timing you have... i was just thinking about that the other day... like i was just sitting there on the couch thinking.. i wonder how many people strive for total perfection... like i know its impossible.. but i wonder if there is anyone out there who tries so hard to be almost Godlike... do these people exist?? do they get so close and fail to succeed? Do they beat themselves up over their imperfections? I believe in Jesus... and what an honor it would be to meet the only perfect person ever......

Can God make a rock so hard he can't smash it?

Oops, i shouldn't have said that. I think I just compromised your faith in God. Too bad.

This is awesome. You have tapped into what it means to know God by these words. I like them and am reminded that God is my reward.

This is an amazing write that a person can learn much from.

I absolutely loved the title. As I read your beautiful poem I wondered how you have acquired such wisdom when you are not old. It is like you touch the heart (like an ancient spiritual being) who is teaching such a young race (us) how to truly live in the right way.
You see the universe, the spirit of human beings - are faults, flaws and our virtue. How is this so?

When I read the quoted section below I had a WOW moment. I honestly felt like WOW, where does he get such significant words of wisdom that will touch all hearts and move all minds to ponder our very purpose?

"All beings at birth fall into delusion caused
By pairs of opposites arising from desire and
Aversion; deluded by senses and egoistic qualities "

Thank you Venkat for writing, for sharing and for being the wise poet that you are.
