You don't understand how hard it is for me
To love you when I know
That I'll lose you and be alone again.
You don't know how painful it is for me
To have you look at me when I look in the mirror
And am overcome with anger and hate.
Nor can you know how much I hate to have you touch me,
Because every time you do, I recall in my mind
The times I've been abused.
I wish I could sit in a dark room with you,
Close enough to feel your warmth but not your touch
I wish I could stay there and talk to you,
And laugh with you the way I used to.
I wish I could believe you when you say
You love me in every possible way
And for as long as you can you'll stay
I love you Joe, more than you'll know
