Soap Opera High School

Welcome to Soap Opera High School,
I will be leading your tour today,
So sorry that I'm running late,
The latest bit of gossip has got me delayed.
I am sure that all of you want to take part,
And know what is going on in our school,
So I will tell you right now the kids that are "trouble"
And the ones that are cool.
You have to know that people that are "talking"
"dating" and that are "steady"
Because believe me flirting with the wrong guy here
Can get kind of deadly.
You will be good to stay neutral
In all of the other debates,
I know that it's hard when the voices are all heated,
But you are running a tad bit too late
To make a difference here.
Continuing on down the next hall,
Be careful,
Try not to slip on the floors and fall,
I will tell you about the teachers that
Are fantastic, and the ones you'd hate to have,
This school, you can't form your own opinions,
If you wanted to, too bad.
There are always going to be people around
That tell you what to think and how to act,
You want to think and do for yourself???
Fine, join the "trouble" kids in back.
They are the kids that never were crowned
King or Queen at a high school dance,
But they went on to write novels
About age old romance,
And they are the ones that were never popular,
And they never hung with the crowd,
But instead of feeling empty inside,
Their voices are heard, so loud.
So join them if you want too,
I need to go on my way,
What's that??? Do something different?
Why not? It is a brand new day.

Another really well written work.
I've never been a student in a U.S. high school, so I'm unfamiliar with that kind of strange peer pressure which has evolved out of mainstream popular culture over there.

But I can try empathise with it through this fine poem.

Keep writing.
