White Cliffs

Contributed by puppy_dog_eyes on Tuesday, 1st June 2004 @ 07:08:59 PM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

On high white cliffs, overlooking the bay
Patiently he stood, on his platform above the sea
Head bowed as if in prayer
The mighty ocean swelled its heart again
Cast foaming waves on the sandy shore

For many moons he had climbed this rocky height
A sentinel as ships silently cut the ripple of water
No bow surged inward bound
None carried his love to the warmth of his arms
Like an infant, helpless, he watched them sail by

Her perfect smile walked the paths of his mind
Bewitching eyes that read every deepest thought
Like a dream she drifted in the quiet of lonely days
Too far away to hold, to kiss, to caress
How he longed for her passion, for the sweetness of her lips

So high, like an angel he stood on the edge
Arms outstretched, his wings to fly
Pausing, as if unsure to take the final step
Looking down, awakened to her calling
Come to me my love, let us once again be one

Like a seabird quietly descending into water
Drawn by the need, by the force within his heart
No feeling for the passing of his life in the darkness
From the depths, slowly rising to meet him
Swimming from the deep, there his one true love

This one can go a couple ways-- I like them both.
I love how much thought went into this poem. This, my friend, is a fantastic poem.
Lots of love,
Chelsea
