He was a brave, young soldier Not afraid to fight Not afraid to protect his country, family, and friends Not afraid to join the marines and go off to fight He said it was his calling What he was meant to do When he was called to go overseas he went with no questions why Just left behind his family and loved ones No one knew when his time would come No one thought he would died so soon, so young He was only 19, had his whole life ahead of him But he died for his country He died protecting and defending our freedom and rights You went with pride, you went with honor You may no longer be with us but you are safe now in a better place You were loved by many and will be greatly missed You are a true hero and wont be forgotten God bless your family in these hard times Thank you for serving our country so bravely May you now rest in peace!
RIP Lance Corporal Travis Layfield 1984-2004

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. We all (Americans) love our freedom. The fact is, however, there are few people willing to die for that freedom. Your emotion is palpable in this poem. Your poem demonstrates what true bravery is...Thank you. |
