Motown Mama: An American Tragedy

The Detroit scenes hottest make-the-groove-move device, In the person of a sexy lady, covered head to toe in ice, Made every moment magic, creating rapture every day, Because her mama was a junkie, her daddy, she couldnt say.
Her beauty silenced the night, an illumined ebony figurine, The loveliest, most uncapturable butterfly Motown had ever seen. All who funked and grooved would have stopped at no sacrifice To be able to stalk an early dawn and see morning in her eyes.
Devastating beauty inaccessible, free and foreign to their grasp The unattainable Motown Mama was stung by a WASP And delivered from the stage lights, severed from the crowd She was rescued into a new life, her old life disavowed.
A Northern ghetto queen, born into the dominion of cocaine Promoted to suburbia and now tripping on the mundane Helpless with a husband, homeless within her home. The spotlight is off Motown Mama and her life is done.

I think this one has great potential - some of the lines are great, terrific, others just kinda fall flat. I say this merelybecause I beleive so much that you could make this really good.
Nice job |

I'm from Detroit and I loved it (well, actually, just a bit north of there). If I had any kind of base in my voice I'd ask your permission to read this at a coffee shop. I kept hearing Barry White's voice reading it in my head:). Great poem. |

This was a different kind of poem for me to read, Elena.........although I did enjoy it. Helpless with a husband, homeless within her home......The spotlight is off Motown Mama and her life is done. Pretty well sums it all up Elena, I work at "Safehouse" and I see this so much.
You are very creative in your poems....this one was very unusual.......but I could relate to it very much
Love

I thought I knew who this was until the end, but maybe I haven't followed Motown closely enough. A fascinating tale anyway.
