Dark Thoughts

Contributed by HellsLibrarian on Wednesday, 9th June 2004 @ 11:58:25 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

I draw a dashd line down my arm
a broken trail following a pale blue vein
and two little looping lines at its end-
cut here, gallows humor
the dark ink is a stark contrast,
seeming almost to float above my
lily white and petal fragile skin
now I cannot miss

I pick up this sharp, shiny thing
testing the point-a red teardrop my reward
I stare and stare until my sight blurs
or is it that my falling tears smudge the ink,
and my heart's crimson blood wells up from
the directions now followed
a vertical slit, snake eye, almost there
and it burns, oh, it burns,
it burns away the pain, and
my self slowly seeps away

and then I awake, my face pressed into
a cold and soggy pillow
my bedclothes disturbed, uneasy
my arm stings, a ghostly pain
and I think,
what a sad, sad, strange dream.
