You ask me
what I want
and I say
many things
but
what I really want. . .
a friendly face in a
crowded room of angry stares
a tender voice in a
raging sea of harsh curses
a strong shoulder to support me
when Im spent and weary
a sturdy shoulder to cry on
when Ive no more strength to bear
someone to cuddle me
when I feel all warm and sleepy
someone to hold me
when Im feeling small and weak
a soft kiss and a quiet sigh
at each parting
a beloved companion to miss me
when Im gone
someone to laugh and dance and play with
quirky and mischievous
someone to live and learn and dream with
patient and tear-worthy
. . . you
