Can't Filter Desire

Yesterday the advert read, "Cigarette filters", cut down the bad, Inhale the good. Today it was, "Clothes shopping, skip the queue."
And all the while I was thinking of you.
It seems, all is filtered these days, You only need to take the best, But this will never apply to desire, A concept inviting a bitter zest.
And often I think about days when I wished I could filter the night before, Shamelessly crying in the rain, As I walked in the night, past your door.
And I thought of what lay within there, Your home, your heart, your life, I wondered if you sat cosily, Alone, or with a pregnant wife.
And I thought about how I would filter, Everything in your head that was not about me, I thought of all of the snapshots I'd taken Of you, with my own sad memory.
And now I realise I'm still flicking, Through an album of images in my mind, Unable to filter completely that space, Where you dominate every second of time.
