ROSES AMONG THE PINE

"ROSES AMONG THE PINE"

In the high mountain regions of Colorado
Nestled among the pine, clusters of roses you'll find.
Red and purple colors in a full blown rainbow.
Hike high enough with backpack, restful paradise to inwind.

Bring your paints and your creative eye.
Splendid greens, blue greens, several blues mixed to catch the sky.
Bouquets of red roses, decorate pines of the mountain.
Similar design, scone shaped cones only wooden.

Celebrations within the trees, as the Aspen host.
Purple roses on some pines, brown on most.
Nearby, a tall, rapid falling waterfall spray.
Droplets heard as they dance upon your tent's leeway.

A small confier loaded down with pine cones purple.
Roses of the pine serve many purposes other than artful.
Their primary function is, of course, reproduction.
Housing the seeds of the next generation of conifer tree,
like a little cushion.

Ever hear of "Pine Nuts?" Edible seeds of the pine tree?
Small elongated ivory-colored seeds from the pine cone.
When raw, soft textured, a sweet buttery flavored chickpea.
When lightly toasted, enhances their flavor, today little known.

Ancient Greek and Roman times found them
eating the pine nut.
A scrumptious delicacy commonly preserved in honey.
Native American Indians used them for common food,
delicious to the palate!
Latino, Mediterranean, and Oriental cultures liked them crudely.

So, the next time you look at the Roses on the Pine...
Perhaps you will see them in a different light.
Get recipes now for the pine nuts prepared with wine.
Thanking Our Loving Creator for this marvelouly
delicious treat perfect for hiking or our campsite.

Delightful poem. Colorado is indeed a beautiful place.

I have eaten pine nuts before and they are delicious. One of my favorite restaurants makes a hummus with them. Quite a distinctive flavor.

This was truly enjoyable to read, my friend.

Hugs,
Rita

Wonderful poem, with great pictures and a funny comic! It's a shame, Colorado's so far from grey, rainy Holland!
Hugs,
