the whole world lies behind that door
black, cold metal door
tarnished brass handle
no keyhole, but it's locked from the outside
a one way door
out but not in
something lies behind it
big and evil and ready to pounce
on the thin whisper of a child
wide eyes and gaping mouth
imagination runs wild, heart racing
as the doorknob turns..oh so slowly
