What is imagination?

Styrofoam plumes were splayed wide and creamy acrossed the sky. She stood at the edge staring off the bank, which was rhythmically lapped and tugged by the current. Gripped around the net, slender fingers ached to release the burdon, only to drag it back. A shadow, sleek and smooth, crossed the water. Tossing her net, the shadow disapeared beneath the curling ripples and she pulled the rope taunt. The reflection of the clouds upon the water waved and parted like lips as she pulled the net toward shore. Realization, an account of experience and doubt, blossomed, as hand over hand she pulled the net. Not a fish, only a shadow of a bird. It sliced the water in half, breaking the glassy surface and rested in the sand. Untangling the net, she asked, 'What is imagination?' as the bird flew away.
