Flight

______________________

rumbling wind beneath metalic wings
rattles my teeth as well as my nerves
saving all my prayers for the last minute
hail mary full of grace - get me out of this place
coasting on sunlit clouds
graceful angels looking down
poor misguided souls who think to fly
sipping warm ginger ale and staring at the pages of a book
half awake and half asleep
unable to surrender to dreams
knowing you are there at the other side
smoking cigarettes and sipping bourbon
captain announces we land in 5 minutes
I search for a hairbrush and lipstick
too late to change clothes, too late to run and hide
nervous energy courses through me
wired to every nuance that might be you
the screech of tires on tarmac
hail mary full of grace - we have landed in one piece
I make my way off the plane, anxious, joyous
I see you almost immediately, I watch you searching
a woman in a white coat walks by
you put your hands over her eyes, Guess who?
what? oh **** wrong one, you look confused
"Looking for me sweetheart?" I stroke your cheek and smile
