Darkest Secret

Contributed by WestCPunk on Tuesday, 6th July 2004 @ 07:58:21 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

A perfect childhood
Turned into a broken dream
No where to hide
And no strength to hold in the screams
Tears lash out at you like knives
No one around who cares
Bruises to painful to bare
And yet there's a secret
Hidden deep within the inside
Something so traumatising
That it'll make you commit suicide
I've made it through horrible times
But nothing as bad as this
I can't believe my eyes
I will be forever violated by this
Nothing can keep me happy anymore
Nothing left to live for
So many dreams that have been shattered
So many thoughts that have been misplaced
Abuse from a drunken father
Who says he can't remember a thing
It's beginning to haunt my dreams
I can't forget about it
I remember everything
A rose sheds it's pedals
A broken child sheds it's tears
Either way
No one can choose their own destiny
And that's why I would die just to be free!

This poem struck a chord within me...I do not live life with a drunken father, though I am close friends to live with both parents as such. I do live in a broken home, and all I would like, is to know I am not alone. I know you aren't. That you have strength.

I can relate to this poem. I too have felt pain so deep that I wanted to end my suffering permanently. It too was caused by my father. I wrote a poem about suicide and pain. I can't say that it ever really gets better but, maybe reading poems by someone who has been through similar situations will help. My poem is called "Painful Experience." Try it out, you may find that you enjoy my poems almost as much as I have enjoyed yours!

This one got to me. It is a very deep kind of pain. A friend of mine here, Hope (another less well-known poet) has had a similar experience. But Light still exists. I don't want to sound clichéd, but it's the nature of this life to fling pain at us, while we try to follow Light and Joy. But the trials, evil as they are, can help us if we simply keep following, and don't bow to them.

Take care. I hope things get better for you.

Dreams and faith does get shattered in life. But I believe it is those hard times that teach us to be strong. Most of us here on this site have suffered traumatizing events and we all pull together to help each other. I am so glad you have come here because I think you will find strength and true friendship here. I know I have and I wish the same for you. Don't give up hope. Hope is the one thing that life cannot take from us. It belongs to us and us only. No one can destroy our hope unless we allow them too.
