Man in the Elevator

The doors close behind me and
I'm face to face with a strange man
I push my button and turn around
And the lift goes up with a wooshing sound
Electricty sizzles between the man and I
As our bodies are hurtled thru the building we fly
The lift stops abruptly and the doors open wide
And a little old lady steps inside
I move to the back and am closer to him
The lady at the front - he and i limb to limb
The elevator music tinkles overhead
But we are all quiet - not a word is said
Again we stop and i'm flung about
The little old lady takes a step out
Alone again with the strange man
Looking covertly at his great all-over-tan
The lift shudders and shakes and stops with a groan
I overbalance and at his chest i am thrown
He disentagles me with a wry smile
And I think i won't be taking the stairs in a while
But then he moves toward the open door
It seems we have stopped and this is his floor
A nod politely as he passes with nothing to say
So I simply watch him as he walks away
