I wake up to the sound of nothing Expecting to hear your crackling radio spit out a healthy tune With its last ounce of energy, slowly dying But still doing what its meant to do, creating your ***** healthy tune Im listening, holding my breath Waiting for something to break this interesting silence The sound of you not there
I wake up to the sound of you crying And the gentle humming as I stroke your hair behind your ear As I carefully collect your tear onto the edge of my finger Watching it hold but then giving up, giving up its form, giving up like you Im still humming, listening to your painful sobs Waiting for a healing sound to stop your stabbing screams The sound of God not there
I wake up to the sound of your breathing A faint whistling sound as your roll over in the bed and Im faced with your back As I pull the covers over your shoulder, mothering you like a baby Watching as you peacefully lie there, blissfully unaware of hate, of neglect, of sorrow Im still here, resting my hand upon your shoulder, listening to you breathe Waiting for something to break the silence between two strangers The sound of me not really here
