Too Late to Make Amends
July 21, 2004
Its too late for words,
To take back what was never said,
Too late for me to hear,
Whats coming up ahead.
There are times to make things right,
But all you ever say, all you make me feel,
Is used up and contrite.
So why do you insist on coming back,
Knowing I cant take all that?
But time and time again,
Like maybe this time it will end.
But let me tell you now,
Its too late for pretend,
My heart wont seem to mend.
So if you think Im wrong,
Or time will turn my heart,
I can show you right now, maybe you will see,
Its too late to make amends with me.
You cant expect to leave,
And show up years later to grieve.
No, nothing works that way,
And all the time you convinced yourself,
To come to me, to stop the delay,
You should have known,
I have moved on.
And Mom? Its just too late,
To decide to care,
Because I no longer look for a place,
To see you standing there.

It's a shame the pain runs so deep with you and your mother but you have written a powerful and moving poem. well done.
