Prince

Contributed by Bruce on Thursday, 22nd July 2004 @ 12:16:26 AM in AEST
Topic: dedicatedpoems

I dedicate this poem
to the best friend that I had
I have lost the dog I loved
I am totally lost and sad
PRINCE was his name
the dog I loved so much
Just looking into his eyes
I could see how he hungered for my touch
He gave me all his love
as I did give to him
Life without this dog
will be very very grim
Thank God I have all the memories
of the life we shared together
Where we went and what we did
no matter what the weather
We took our last walk
on this cloudy day
I kissed the dog I loved
and sent him on his way
Hopefully to green pastures
where he can run and play
Within God's pearly gates
where he will finally lay

Hi Bruce,

I'm sorry to hear about your loss of Prince. I know the pain your feeling. I wish I could tell you that it will go away. But I can't. I still cry when I think of my Robert (Aus. Cattle Dog). He's been gone now for 2 and a half years. I can tell you that your memories will become more precious. Because all other dogs will be compared to your Prince. They will never measure up. Because you've already had the best. I do beleive that our pets have souls. Beleiving this, then I have to beleive that they too are welcomed in Heaven. My thoughts are with you.

J~

Your poem touched me. Prince lookes like a fine boy.
I've lost a few 'best friends' over the years and it never
gets easy. The grieving is sometimes even more
intense then when losing a family member.

I can say this because I'm not as close to some family
members as I was to each of my dogs. So the parting
is much more acute.

I don't know if you're familiar with this work by an unknown
author, but it always offers me some comfort:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies who has been especially close to
someone here; that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends
so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food,
water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to
health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made
whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our
dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing;
they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left
behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when
one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.

His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he
begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs
carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend
finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be
parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands
again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the
trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never
absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...

What a lovely way to remember your special friend, I wrote a poem to my cat last year who died at the ripe old age of 12, pets are such loyal friends, they listen without judgement and are filled with love just for you, I am sorry for your loss but nobody can take away your memories, they will stay with you forever.

i love your poem. another thing, my dog died on April 13 also. reading your poem brought back memories of mine and i started to cry. i wish she never did die. my dog died because somebody had hit her with a car and didn't stop so i had to take her to the vet because she was still alive, but in a lot of pain. i miss her so much. i told the vet to just put her down so she wouldn't have to suffer any longer. it was horrible.

love forever,
stew

Such a loving and touching tribute to a dear departed friend. The poem Stony posted also touched me and brought me to tears. We all have our friends that we miss and I believe someday we will be reunited. (I hope anyways) Beautiful animal, Bruce.
