A new mother... she holds her baby tightly in her arms Safe and warm... from the perils of this life Strengthen by her inner spirit She moves silently through life No one knows the strength of a mother's love... When it's held safely... in love's protecting arms
Now... after all of these years... she's gone... Out of my life... and into God's protecting arms She's gone... and she ain't never coming back And this life won't ever be the same... again But... she's gone... and now safe is she... In love's protecting arms
I know this feeling won't ever come again I feel as though... I've just lost my best friend There's nothing like a mother's love... To keep one safe and warm But... now she's gone... And all I have let of her... are these memories And being held safe and warm... In love's protecting arms
Where love once did reside... A void has now opened up inside And left a big hole in my heart Where the love now sifts right on through Like these tears I cry for you But I know... dear mother of mine... That I may see you again... in time Safe and warm... In love's protecting arms
Our hearts were once entwined Now... ripped apart is mine Still... I hold a part of you Forever in my heart... This is true... I will always love you... Though you are gone... out of my life I know... you're safe and warm... In love's protecting arms
I know... you're safe and warm... In God's protecting arms
You're safe and warm... In love's protecting arms
