A Remarkable Lesson

A REMARKABLE LESSON(Peter Sprenkeler)

A beautiful story of courage and example,
I cant remember the circumstance of its hearing.
But the memory of it always remains fresh in my mind,
A tale of humilitywith a great lesson endearing.

An old crop farmerdown on good fortune,
Several poor seasonstrying to make ends meet.
His family hungrythe present crop all so important,
Desperately toiling to stave off financial defeat.

Yet this season is kindthe magnificent crop blooms,
A bumper harvest will soon be reapedjust a few days away.
Plans made for celebrationsmoney to pay off the bank,
Been many years since good circumstance had been this way.

Two days before the harvestthe skies brood menacing,
Black ominous clouds buildthe winds in strength prevail.
One hour laterthe worst fears have come to pass,
A thunderous stormaccompanied by awesome withering hail.

Several hours laterthe fury of the storm eases,
The father and his sonwalk out to survey the scene.
Total devastationnot a stalk of wheat remains upright,
Dumbstruckthey looka nightmarea horrible dream.

Several minutes of intense quietnessthey stand together,
The son and fatherneither capable of finding a word.
Then something happensthe young man will never forget,
To this day he claimsthe sweetest music he ever heard.

In powerful voiceamid the hail covered crop,
A song echoes powerfullyacross the valley rich and free.
With eyes awash the father sangRock of ages,
Cleft for melet me hide myself in thee.

The father sangtook his sons handand quietly walked away,
Yet the young mans life would never be the same.
The lad grew to be a fine and upright man of God,
The lesson of that dayforever with him to remain.

I think this is beautiful.

Faith in God's goodness in every circumstance- that's what makes all the difference.
Every day and every time, He deserves all of our hearts, and all of our worship.
