he only water here is tears, tears to wet the dust If tears could be harvested, there would be days of plenty All is barren, drought of dreams, famine of a life to be lived Clinging to the fine thread of existence, barely clutching hope
Each day feels like a burden, to be carried like a stone Laughter long silenced in the burning kingdom of death Sun beats down on her dark familiar days Blackness of emptiness, to give smiles too frivolous
Her eyes see nothing but the path of despair A road well travelled by those gone before Misery leads, takes her by the hand Laughs in her face at the dry river bed
In her mind she has already died, but the suffering lingers The will to fight dwindling like flames of unattended fire Take a number, wait in line for your fate Where the devil deals nobody wins, but everybody plays
She wanders, she wonders, how soon the rains will come To quench the dry that breathes disease Only the flood of tears will fall Tears to wet the dust

I think you have captured very well those horrific images we see to often in this so called advanced age.
If the object of your poem was to stop and make people think, you have achieved that with merit here. An excellent piece of work.
