Hell is a state of mind.

Contributed by rhymeandreason on Tuesday, 3rd August 2004 @ 09:02:59 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

Hell is a state of mind.
Built by those who are resigned
to the belief, that they should be confined,
in some place past heartbreaking.
Somewhere within a place forsaken.

Hell is an abstract, a construct,
hard fact, mindset,
where remorse, and regret,
haven't met yet.
It's a hardluck bloodlet.
A monstrously huge karmic bad debt.
A no joy concept
that overpowers, and sours
even your finest memories.
Back when there was no Hell.
As far as you could tell.
Not even anything like it
that you could conjure up.
No, nothing that could corrupt
your sense of self, as having some value or worth.
Now there is only a dirth
of such notions.
No pleasant emotions
for the likes of you.
You know it's true.
You made it so.
Told joy to go, and take a flying leap.
Now you weep,
and wish that what you sowed that day,
against your soul, you didn't use to weigh.
That worth, and value, you once were sure
applied to your spiritual being. Something pure,
and evidently a part of you no more.
So convinced that this is so it permeats your very core.
Belief is a powerful thing, as you now know.
You thought yourself a place to go,
and then you went there.
A place that is nowhere,
that you want to be, but "believe" you "ought" to be.
And now, the getting free has become so problematic,
that you can't see through it. Your wish ,so autocraticly emphatic,
that you can't undo it.
Having gone so far in the wrong direction,
without compass, map or stars to aid your couse correction.
You realize that there is none.
By escape, your freedom can't be won.
To tell you not to believe any longer in this Hell of your creation.
Will not lessen your stay there, or improve your situation.
But this will.
If you still
know the difference between there and here.
Then in Hell clear,
a place where Hell is declared enemy,
of all that's good, and right. Then keep that one spot free.
Of all Hellish thoughts and actions.
Find others, who like the anti-Hell attractions.
Then fight from there, reclaim your loss.
Don't give in, no matter cost.
And once free, to freedom cling.
Then and only then, you'll say; " There is no such thing."
When someone brings up the subject of Hell.
This the only way I know for you to break this mighty spell.
You cast upon yourself. Why? I don't know.
Next time, pick a nicer place to conjure up and go.

It's evident that you are saying a lot here, which I can appreciate. However on the first read it's hard to comprehend everything that you are saying. What I did notice, that I liked on my first read, was the point that hell is a state of mind, that we choose to create and live in. This is definitely a deep poem with a lot of underlying issues hidden within. Or maybe I'm wrong. I dunno, this is just the impression that I got. Good job.

nice write, i liked the point you make alot, you have to fight, for the right, to party......yay, ok that might not be your exact point, but thats just the first thing that poped in my mind, but i like the idea that hell has no power over those who choose not to believe in it, and fight to keep themselves doing good to and for others.....nice write
