Lunar Explorations

In the twilight of an August night,
under the dusk and an epiphany of stars,
we divided the full moon between us.
We passed around the pipe and a cheap
bottle of wine. Talked about art, music,
God, girls and other passing fads.
We waded through a wet grassy field,
dew covered leaves, the sticky fingers
of natures hand pulled at our pants
as undulating, rolling, green waves
of grass crested and crashed over us.
We drifted away into the night.
Trees were alive, whispering aloud,
speaking in infinite detail, wrinkled
bark, twisted branches, veins flowing
green in leaves, a 3D glow of life.
Bright purple, hallooed streetlights
turned the old blacktop road red,
canals of Mars, headlights of passing cars,
shooting stars . . .
Passerbys spoke in alien tongues.
It was gibberish and we laughed
in hysterical madness, an encounter
with exotic creatures of unknown origin.

appeared out of nowhere, looked
into our eyes and spoke across the miles
of infinite space,
Ive been where you guys are at.
A small step, a giant leap, a universe
of your own design. Be cool and be careful
of the black holes of your soul.
His laughter trailed rainbows as he faded
out of our sight and we fluttered like moths
in search of firelight, until we stood
on an apartment house roof, watching
the dawns changing Technicolor light.
Sunrise and reality set in.
The alignment ended and we returned
to our separate orbits. Gravity pulled
us home and like meteorites crashing
into our beds, we slept away
the long summer day.

I love your way with words - your ability to describe is incredible -
We waded through a wet grassy field,
dew covered leaves, the sticky fingers
of nature’s hand pulled at our pants.
