Grief

That path you ask where does it lead Well sit for a tale most tragic For once it led to a beautiful tower Surrounded by a field of magic
Birds did sing and fill the air With song that lifted the heart The crickets chirped their merry tune And the brook did babble its part
Sunshine always filled the day The ground a carpet of flowers The leafs would dance upon the breeze And at night came gentle showers
In the midst of this heavenly glade A tower standing tall and sure Its mighty walls were solid and strong Protecting a heart thats pure
The lad who made this tower home Led a life that was free of care His days were filled with song and dance His happiness beyond compare
Then came that fateful morning When a movement caught his eye For there on the tower window Sat a beautiful butterfly
Never before the lad did think Have my eyes beheld such treasure The colorful patterns on silken wings Sent out waves of pleasure
He approached both shy yet eager Afraid she might fly away With a voice with trembled slightly He asked if she would stay
After careful contemplation She said in a voice so low Stay with you for awhile OK But in the end I must go
His heart was close to bursting For he knew down deep inside That once she saw his beautiful home She would never leave his side
The days flew by in perfect bliss Together reaches heights unknown He soon forgot her careful warning Til one morning she had flown
Now the birds and bees still sang their songs And the sun still blazed outside But all was black inside the tower Reflections of a heart that died
Slowly the darkness spread its wings Til its shadow filled the glade Then vanish did the birds and flowers As the magic began to fade
Today the meadow is dark and silent And all who pass shed tears For the lad has grown old and lonely Waiting for her all these years

MrPeanut, have we met ? You tell MY story with such grace and perfection ... Absolutely Wonderful. I think you and I could swap stories and compare scars for days.

A sad and strikingly visual lament on the cost of investing our happiness in the company of others. As Little Nicky would say;
"release the butterflies!" (within)
I hope the quest doesn't take another decade of your life,
