Sweet Grey Birdie

Contributed by liquidsunshine on Saturday, 7th August 2004 @ 10:01:46 AM in AEST
Topic: NaturePoetry

Little bird upon my back porch
Are you going to be okay?
It seems youve flown into my window
And you look in quite a daze

Ah, I see you are a grey bird
What kind I cant be sure
But your round black eyes are blinking fast
From what youve just endured

Ill smile at you, sweet grey bird
Ill slowly tilt my head
Ill wink and let you know that
Im not one that you should dread

There, there, birdie youll be fine now
Yeah, thats it, just turn my way
Now youre little heads a-tilting
Just like mine gave a slight sway

So Ill watch you as youre blinking
And Ill blink in time with you
Then I throw in playful winking
To my surprise you wink back too!

Little birdie soft and grey, now
Dont you fear my silly cat
For hes really much too stupid
To be anything but fat

I shall hide him, he shant hurt you
Oh dont unfurl your feathered wings
Dont fly off and leave me longing
For what next my window brings

But youve goneits all my cats fault
What a stupid, big galoot
Now Im glaring at my fat cat
Cause hes gone and made you scoot

Nice! It made me smile.

I really must get back to reading your poetry. I've been unaccountably lazy of late.

I can't tell you the overwhelming sense of peace and wonder I derived from this. How I wish I was there with you watching this bird.
